What London Can Be

Source: London Community Foundation Episode 15

In this episode of What London Can Be, our host Diane Silva speaks with Joe Ganselves, Coordinator of the JobWorks and PATCH programs at Hutton House Association for Adults with Disabilities, about the Cavendish Community Food Hub project – a brand new, accessible urban farm to be located in the Kensington Village area of London and recipient of a $230,744 grant through LCF’s Community Vitality Grant program.

Here are some highlights of the interview. When talking about where the idea for The PATCH came from, Joe Ganselves says, "Hutton house has always been about people and community … we began the process of developing The PATCH program 6 years ago, we realized that our community needed to return to a model of self-reliance and community support."  Diane Silva, host of "What London Can Be" asked about how The PATCH will help feed into overall food security for Londoners. Joe's responded "We see a need for people to strive for independence, that’s the corner stone of what Hutton House is all about. Food security is all about independence, it's all about self-reliance. To gain self-reliance and independence you need the skills to do so. We see the PATCH as the opportunity to offer individuals ... the skills to grow their own food where they can grow it .. we see these skills transferring to employment skills.", highlighting The PATCH’s mission to help the community learn valuable transferable skills.
